Few surprises in recruiting class rankings
Baylor, South Carolina and USC were among the big winners in Baseball America's recruiting class rankings.
1. Baylor
Recruiting coordinator: Mitch Thompson
Key recruits: OF Aaron Miller (Rockies, 11); 1B/OF Dustin Dickerson (Nationals, 15); RHP Kendall Volz (Diamondbacks, 50); RHP Shawn Tolleson; IF Shaver Hansen; IF Raynor Campbell; C Gregg Glime
Miller, Dickerson, Volz and Tolleson are four of the nation's top recruits, headlining a class that includes impact players all over the diamond. Quality righties Willie Kempf, Craig Fritsch and Ryan Jenkins make this a deep class, as well.
2. South Carolina
Recruiting coordinator: Jim Toman
Key recruits: 3B/RHP Lonnie Chisenhall (Pirates, 11); RHP Nick Fuller (Devil Rays, 3); RHP *Jay Brown (Devil Rays, 18); RHP Sam Dyson (Nationals, 19); 2B *Travis Jones; RHP *Jordan Costner; RHP Blake Cooper
South Carolina's top four rivals Baylor's for star power, led by Chisenhall, the nation's top two-way player. Fuller touches 95 with his fastball and owns a filthy but inconsistent slider. Dyson has serious arm strength and has touched 97 but needs to refine his secondary stuff. Transfers Jones and Costner should make immediate impacts at second base and in the bullpen.
