Offseason Moves

After the Hawks fired Knight they hired the Keystone Kops to conduct their general manager search; multiple candidates took a look under the hood and walked away before Atlanta finally settled on former Seattle and Detroit GM Rick Sund. Sund's track record could charitably be described as below average, and to many outsiders it seemed the primary reason he got the job was he was one of the few qualified people willing to accept it.

He's operating with a tricky situation right from the get-go, as ownership installed Woodson as his coach -- even though sticking a new GM with a holdover coach rarely produces a happy marriage. It helps a bit Woodson only has a two-year deal, which gives Sund some leeway to make a change if the Hawks get off to a bad start.
