Kyrie Irving the perfect point guard
Blend of maturity, scoring and passing makes rookie of year ideal on-court leader
That Kyrie Irving is this season's NBA Rookie of the Year is not really news. Like recent previous winners, there really was no competition. The bigger story is how Cleveland, ironically, was better served by losing LeBron James when it did, because it put the Cavaliers in position to draft Irving and not John Wall or Anthony Davis. Both of those young men have the talent to be outstanding players, but neither has the NBA Most Valuable Player potential that Irving does.
Irving is not only the best rookie guard the league has seen since Chris Paul (currently the world's best point guard), Irving's skill set might be the most complete among any first-year point guard in NBA history.
