The Andrew Bynum trade was not a disaster for Philadelphia.
It was unfortunate. It was an undermining of expectations. It did not work out as planned. But the "disaster" and "nightmare" tags are hyperbolic considering what the 76ers gave up and considering what they were trading for.
At age 24, when the Sixers acquired him, Bynum was on the ascent. The young big man had just played a career high in minutes, earned a starting All-Star selection and finished second in center PER, behind only an injured Dwight Howard. Bynum had also made quite the playoff impression, delivering an incredible blocks-inclusive triple-double in Game 1 against Denver.
