Kevin Garnett, Paul PierceNicole Sweet/USA TODAY SportsThe Brooklyn Nets have been playing better on the defensive end lately.

The second half of the NBA season got underway earlier this week, and for bettors it can be an exciting and profitable time of year. The trick is being able to spot change as a handful of teams will produce vastly different results than what took place the first three months of the season. With the trade deadline now passed, some teams are priming for postseason runs, others are fighting tooth-and-nail to reach the playoffs and, of course, plenty of squads have no choice but to look toward June's draft. As an NBA bettor, being ahead of the curve is paramount to making money, so let's take a look at a few second-half betting opportunities.

Here are the teams you should be buying and selling in the NBA's second half.

Teams to buy in the second half

Memphis Grizzlies

Title odds: 50-1
Season record: 30-23 (Projected win total: 51.5)
Against the spread (ATS) record: 23-30

The grit-and-grind Grizzlies were born during the 2011 playoffs with an upset of top seed San Antonio. There was more postseason success last year with a trip to the Western Conference finals, including a 4-1 series win over top seed Oklahoma City. As a bettor, I've been able to profit on the Grizzlies throughout that span thanks to their sound team chemistry and defense -- two attributes that are often undervalued in the betting markets.
