How the talent pool was created
To do a mock expansion draft, you have to have players. Here's how we did it.
As part of their mock expansion draft, ESPN Insider's Tom Haberstroh and Kevin Pelton simulated the players each team would protect if the league were to expand this season. We followed the rules of expansion according to the CBA.
Every team can protect up to eight players, including restricted free agents (who become unrestricted free agents if selected), but must make at least one player available. Unrestricted free agents are not eligible, and decisions on player options were also simulated as necessary.
