West scouting reports: Kings-Spurs | Lakers-Suns | Clippers-Nuggets | Grizzlies-Mavs

This series is the best argument to change the current playoff seeding system. There is no way these two teams should have to face each other in the first round. The Dallas Mavericks are the third best team in terms of record in the NBA overall. They are playing the Memphis Grizzlies, who own the ninth-best record. Compare that with Detroit, the best team in the NBA, going against Milwaukee, which owns the league's 17th-best record this season. No wonder Mavs owners Mark Cuban feels the need to try to help the NBA with policy; the league couldn't have screwed this up any worse. Dallas has put an emphasis on defense the last two seasons, with specific player acquisitions and a coaching changes. Dallas is the better team on paper, but Memphis is due to start winning some games in the playoffs.
