I got a number of e-mails regarding the Hot Hand study presented at the 2009 MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference this past weekend, and now we have more information available for those who are interested -- one of the co-presenters, Sandy Weil, posted all the slides from the presentation here, so folks can see exactly the phenomenon we're talking about.
As you can tell from the rigor of the presentation, they considered a lot of alternate hypotheses about why a player might exhibit this data and then were able to rule them out one by one.
