Better playoff race in East than West?

If you're looking for a bigger upset than the Saints beating the Colts, consider this one: The NBA's Eastern Conference might end up having a better playoff race than the Western Conference this year.

If you think I'm insane, check out the standings. The sands in the playoff race have shifted substantially during the past two weeks or so, and that has given us a lot more certainty about outcomes in the West -- where a four-game gap separates our projected eighth- and ninth-place teams in today's Playoff Odds -- than in the East (one game).
