Top 10 point guard draft prospects
Australian Dante Exum and Oklahoma State's Marcus Smart lead the pack
With the college basketball season about to get underway, it's time to take a preseason look at the top 2014 NBA draft prospects by position.
Remember, this isn't a list of the best players in college by position -- it's the best NBA prospects. In many cases, those two lists don't align very well. I've spoken to a number of NBA general managers and scouts in an attempt to aggregate the wisdom of the pros who scout these guys for a living. I don't always agree with their rankings, but since they're the ones making the picks, their opinions carry a lot of weight here.
Of course, these rankings will change as the season progresses, and we'll try to come back each month with an update.
For starters, it's the point guards -- one of the two most coveted positions in the draft. There are very few "pure" point guards left these days. Many are clearly combo guards, but if they are projected to be point guards in the pros by NBA scouts, then they made this list.
Top 100 Rank: 3
Andrew Wiggins and Julius Randle are receiving the lion's share of the buzz this season, but there is a growing number of general managers who believe Exum could be in the discussion for the No. 1 pick in June. Blessed with size, speed, elite athleticism and the ability to play both positions in the backcourt, scouts were blown away by his performance in the FIBA under-19 championships. The biggest question he faces is whether he'll head to college or straight to the NBA.
