Who will pair with Anthony Davis?
Breaking down New Orleans' draft profile and potential picks this year
NBA Insiders Amin Elhassan and Bradford Doolittle break down the draft profile, needs and potential picks of the 14 teams eligible for the NBA draft lottery this year. With some help from Chad Ford's Big Board of top 30 prospects, we take a look at the New Orleans Pelicans. Note: The Pelicans have no draft picks, so this is a rundown of their general roster needs, strengths and weaknesses.
Personnel Needs: Small forward, Center
Major need: With Anthony Davis experiencing a breakout All-Star sophomore season as one of five players in the league to average 20 points and 10 rebounds (and the only one to post that stat line with more than two blocks per game), the Pelicans need to find him help up front. Someone to fill the sort of role that ex-Pelican Robin Lopez filled alongside LaMarcus Aldridge in Portland. New Orleans was one of the five worst defensive teams in the league, giving up more than 107 points per 100 possessions, and while Davis has Defensive Player of the Year potential, he needs help covering for a porous perimeter defense.
