Michael Carter-Williams and OKC?
If Syracuse PG somehow falls to Thunder, it could be a perfect match
Few names in this draft can provide the kind of thrill that Michael Carter-Williams can.
However, he's also the kind of player who fuels debate. Is he the next great true point guard, capable of making his teammates better on both sides of the ball? Or is he going to be an offensive liability because defenses won't need to defend him at all? Can he learn to shoot and score as he matures as an NBA player?
Being drafted by the right team can go a long way toward helping Carter-Williams become the player his potential promises. Look at what the San Antonio Spurs have done with Kawhi Leonard. Placed in the right situation with the right team, Leonard has blossomed into a borderline star and, at the very least, a highly productive starter on both ends of the court.
In my mind, the team that could do the same for Carter-Williams is the Oklahoma City Thunder. Unfortunately, since their first pick is at No. 12, it is very likely Carter-Williams will be gone by the time the Thunder draft. ESPN's own draft expert Chad Ford has Carter-Williams going to Sacramento at No. 7 in his latest mock draft.
On the other hand, if Carter-Williams somehow slips to No. 12, the Thunder have a roster that can accept Williams for what he currently is, while developing him for what they need down the road.
