There was a time when drafting an international player was far more of a crapshoot regarding a player's basketball ability than it is today. The lack of knowledge about players, the levels of play around the world and other complicating factors made it very tricky for NBA teams during the evaluation process in the past.
Now, there is a history of success and failure of international players in the NBA to draw from. And, with the amount of money and manpower teams are putting into procuring foreign talent, the ability to assess the NBA potential of those players is in many cases about the same as evaluating college players.
