Felix Hernandez's secret weapon
The Mariners' defense does a lot more for him than just save runs

It's easy to forget that Felix Hernandez is just 26 years old. Already in his eighth major league season, Hernandez has put together an impressive career, including one Cy Young Award and one runner-up finish. He's been one of the consensus best pitchers in baseball for several years running, and he's been the perfect model of consistency. Perhaps that's why we hardly even notice that the Mariners' ace is in the midst of perhaps his best season to date, striking out batters at a higher rate than ever before.
