Second Look: Miller, Baez
Two top NL Central prospects came on strong late
From now until the end of the season, we'll be giving you an updated report on prospects who appeared on Keith Law's preseason top 100 or midseason top 50 prospect rankings. Today we're taking a second look at Shelby Miller and Javier Baez, two of the best NL Central prospects around.
Miller was on the fast track to the front of the Cardinals' rotation at the beginning of this season until the 2009 first-round pick saw his stuff take a step back early in the year. The good news for Cardinals fans is that he seems to have returned to form (2.89 ERA in August with 53 K's and 4 walks in 37 1/3 IP), and earned a September call-up. I saw one of his final Triple-A starts and came away impressed, but not sold on him as an ace.
