While they're not among the best teams in baseball, you'd be hard-pressed to find Cleveland Indians or Pittsburgh Pirates fans who are disappointed with the way the season has gone so far. Neither club was expected to be a serious contender, yet now they both find themselves within striking distance of a trip to the playoffs.

Dan Szymborski explains why inexpensive bullpens are the key to the Indians' and Pirates' success, and also points out that there is no correlation between a bullpen's cost and success.
