San Diego Padres: Fifth Starter

Update on latest outings: As we discussed earlier in the week, three of the Padres' rotation candidates pitched across two split-squad games Wednesday. Sean Gallagher (1 ER, 3 K's) and Mat Latos (0 ER, 2 K's) each notched three strong innings to help the Padres beat the Brewers, while Wade LeBlanc also went three (4 hits, 1 ER) in San Diego's loss to the Indians.

ESPN.com's Jason Grey breaks down the fantasy implications of this competition in more detail in Thursday's column:

Gallagher has a leg up

"Gallagher is out of options and would certainly be claimed if exposed to waivers, so he's likely going to make the club. The one thing not working in Gallagher's favor is that he does have bullpen experience. ... However, the indication I have gotten is that the fifth starter's job is Gallagher's to lose."
