Forecasting MLB All-Star lineups
ESPN's researchers dive into the midsummer intrigue of the All-Star selection process
This season, Major League Baseball has expanded All-Star rosters to include 33 players for each league. Forecasting the players that will comprise these teams can be a tricky process, given the various contributing factors. On Thursday evening, fan voting concludes to determine the eight elected starters for each league. On Sunday, in addition to the starters being announced, Major League Baseball will reveal each league's eight player-elected reserves and eight player-elected pitchers, as well as the eight players selected by each manager. In addition, an Internet fan vote will then determine the final spot for each team.
