BP Daily: The pine-riders
Ben Zobrist is the latest bench player bound for more contributions
Just because a player spends most of his time on the bench doesn't mean he lacks the skills to start. Some players ride the pine solely because there is already someone with the same skill set -- or an unwieldy contract -- on the team, which can dictate how roster spots are used and how playing time gets handed out. For those players that could perform if they were given the chance, they are just one injury or extended slump from a starter away from getting more playing time. This has already happened on plenty of major league rosters this season, including this weekend. Recognizing in advance which bench players you should target for your fantasy roster in these scenarios can give you a leg up on your competition.
