Mirabelli for Loretta ... Say what?
Why did the Padres trade Mark Loretta for Doug Mirabelli? It makes no sense. Same goes for the Nationals' decision to acquire Alfonso Soriano.

Let me be clear about this ... I like Doug Mirabelli. As a player, I mean. No, he's never been a No. 1 catcher, and he hasn't piled up even 200 at-bats since 2000. If he's got a tag, it's as the designated butterfly catcher, but nobody's throwing knuckleballs for the San Diego Padres, who acquired Mirabelli on Wednesday (though Steve Sparks, as usual, is just a phone call away).
