If the storm warnings coming from every compass point are correct, the offseason looks to be one of hurricane-force spending on free agents -- even if the 2005 class looks mighty thin. So the three-year contract that Japanese catcher Kenji Johjima just inked with the Mariners comes as no surprise, especially when one espies the current free-agent catching corps.

While the regular receivers on the market provide solid options for teams to consider, there are certainly no stars who could make a big impact. And the available reserves are a bunch of recycled catchers.
