Gil Meche's five-year, $55 million deal with Kansas City elicited the typical dour reactions from front-office people who are tired of watching salaries soar upward in a gravity-free compensation zone.
As one American League executive observed, "I've stopped being amazed by some of the things going on this offseason. It's not good for your system to be shocked every day sometimes twice a day."
On the bright side, the transaction did wonders for Dayton Moore's popularity at his local house of worship.
