Cubs missing much more than Lee

SAN FRANCISCO -- Derrek Lee, emotionally vested in his fellow Cubs from his life in disabled list purgatory, watched the team on television recently during a brief trip home to California. A desire to keep tabs on his buddies turned into nearly three hours of vicarious suffering.

"I watched them and I thought, 'They're trying so hard,' " Lee said. "You can see it on their faces, how hard they're running and going after balls and concentrating during their at-bats. We're playing as hard as we possibly can. Things just aren't happening for us right now."
