Adam Eaton, San Diego's No. 2 starter behind Jake Peavy, is watching with interest this winter while general manager Kevin Towers makes a flurry of moves to reshape the club.

Mike Cameron, Vinny Castilla, Doug Mirabelli and Dewon Brazelton are new in town, and Mark Loretta, Brian Lawrence and Sean Burroughs are gone. The Padres nearly lost closer Trevor Hoffman to Cleveland before signing him for a hometown discount, and they jumped in late in the game to keep Brian Giles from becoming a Dodger.

Now Eaton is wondering when San Diego management will get serious about his future with the organization. Judging from his tone of voice, it better be soon.
