DALLAS -- Scott Boras has ample reasons to be fond of this town. He negotiated a 10-year, $252 million contract for Alex Rodriguez with the Texas Rangers here in 2000, and left Dallas with an eight-figure commission and the knowledge that he had just brokered a deal of seismic proportions.
Five years later, former Rangers GM Doug Melvin, now with the Brewers, still gets migraines when he thinks about the press conference.
Boras is slightly less wistful about the Wyndham Anatole Hotel, where baseball's winter meetings will return this week. The hotel layout ensures that most foot traffic passes through a huge central atrium, so a man with a plan, a briefcase and superstar clientele can't conduct his business without the hassle of regular media updates.
