- Keith Law, ESPN Insider
As I have in previous years, I'm going through position groups to provide a look at where teams will find value (and where they won't) in free agency this offseason.
Here's a look at best values, worst values and trade targets among free-agent catchers and designated hitters.
There's such a shortage in the catcher market that even the good players with upside -- mostly Brian McCann, who's already a star-caliber player, and Jarrod Saltalamacchia, who has a little growth left in his offensive game -- are likely to be handsomely compensated. That means the best values are guys who'll likely play part-time or who are very high-risk but offer more reward than the retreads at the bottom of the market.
Keith Law provides his free-agency buyer's guide for catchers and designated hitters, looking at the best and worst values and trade targets at both positions.
