Gowdy typifies strange Hall voting habits

The strangest thing about the Hall of Fame is not the players who have been elected (well, at least not the players elected by the Baseball Writers' Association of America). The strangest thing about the Hall of Fame is not the players who have not been elected (although, of course, Ron Santo and Bert Blyleven might reasonably argue otherwise). No, the positively strangest thing about the Hall of Fame is the list of players, including some you've probably never heard of, who garnered a great deal more votes from that same BBWAA than you could possibly guess.

I've noticed this from time to time, when working on other things. But this weekend, it really hit home, when I scanned the results of our Hall of Famers vs. non-Hall of Famers simulation and noticed a strange name in the non-Hall of Fame lineup.
