Since Theo Epstein left Fenway Park in a gorilla suit two weeks ago, he has told friends that he has begun what he hopes will be a period of growth that will make him stronger and better prepared for the rest of his baseball career.

He has shared the stage with John Henry at a ceremony honoring him as the Brookline (Mass.) High School Graduate of the Year. He has visited his sister Anya in Los Angeles, where he met with Frank and Jamie McCourt to discuss the then-vacant Dodgers general manager's job. He has been in constant touch with the Red Sox baseball operations staff, and told them that leaving was by far the most difficult part of his decision.
