Among all of the e-mails I received this weekend was one arguing that Wade Boggs doesn't rank anywhere among the all-time third basemen because he didn't hit home runs, and third base is a power position. Fortunately, some percentage of the critical messages did make me think, and here's perhaps the best of them ...

Rob, I can appreciate Sal Bando over Nettles, Boyer, Traynor, and Cey ... but what about Chipper Jones? You haven't kept away from active players at other positions, so I don't know why you'd do that here. Are you telling me if Chipper retired today, you would take Bando's career over his?

As of today, Bando is about 400 games and 1,200 at-bats ahead of Jones.
