CLEARWATER, Fla. -- There isn't much that's upbeat about getting sick in spring training. But while I've been lying around in survival mode these past few days, at least I've had plenty of time to think.

So here's a deep thought about Derek Jeter, whose eternal Yankee-ness was the last topic to rattle off my keyboard back in healthier times.

Has there ever been a greater, more rewarding or more productive 10-year contract in baseball history than Jeter's?
