• The last time Barry Bonds hit second in anybody's starting lineup: July 27, 1986 -- for the Pirates against the Giants. Opposing starting pitcher that night: Vida Blue.

• Was Jake Peavy the only starting pitcher ever to exit an All-Star Game after just 16 pitches? Could be. Pitch-count info is only available for a little more than a decade. But no starting pitcher, since those pitch counts have been recorded, has left after throwing so few pitches. And according to baseball-reference.com's Play Index, just four other All-Star starters have departed after only one inning without allowing a run:

    Chris Carpenter in 2005 (also with Tony La Russa managing)
    Randy Johnson in 2000
    Kevin Brown in 1992
    Fernando Valenzuela in 1981 (a few days after the end of a seven-week strike)
