ARLINGTON, Texas -- CC Sabathia has another three weeks or so to decide whether to opt out of his contract with the Yankees, whether to test the market and perhaps go someplace where there is need for a perennial candidate for the Cy Young Award.
The Cubs, for example, will soon have a new general manager and could use an injection of clubhouse leadership. The Rangers could be facing the loss of C.J. Wilson and looking for a replacement. The Angels are prepared to do something aggressive in the market and already understand what losing players like Adrian Beltre and Mike Napoli to a division rival could mean; they could jump into the conversation on Sabathia, a California native, to keep him away from Texas.
For now, Sabathia's focus is entirely on remaining with the Yankees, according to his agent, Brian Peters. "CC has been clear about how he feels about New York and the Yankees," Peters said on Saturday morning, "and we will exhaust all of our efforts to reach a new agreement [with the Yankees]."
