An international loophole looms for the draft

A recent decision by a San Diego high school basketball player may have a lasting impact on the future of the international baseball free-agent market. This week, hoops phenom Jeremy Tyler, a high school junior, announced he would drop out of school in order to play pro basketball internationally. Several baseball agents with experience in the international market agree that it's inevitable that an American-born baseball player will eventually exploit a similar opportunity by taking advantage of a loophole in Major League Baseball's amateur signing system.
