Bracket Projection: New Mexico St.
Will the Aggies' interior presence be enough to score a tourney win?
One year after hanging with Indiana in the round of 64, the New Mexico State Aggies, despite losing three starters, are back in the NCAA tournament. It's their third trip in four seasons. Is this the year New Mexico State pulls an upset?
ESPN Insider has your answers, as Joe Lunardi has enlisted a team of Bracketologists to compile advanced metrics, key scouting intel and best- and worst-case tournament scenarios for all 68 teams, in order to help you make smart picks in your bracket. Plus, as Lunardi fills out his bracket, he'll give you his prediction on how each team will fare.
The Aggies may find the court a whole lot more crowded against Saint Louis than against the bulk of their WAC opponents. The Billikens are the opposite of "wide open," and preventing NMSU from going up and down the floor is going to make New Mexico State's tournament stay pretty miserable. Like we often say, the NCAA tournament is about matchups, and this one is not good for the Aggies.
Best wins: Southern Miss, Denver
Worst losses: at Oregon State, at Utah State
