Bracket Projection: NC A&T
Aggies play terrific defense, but lack of size on the interior is an issue
The North Carolina A&T Aggies punched their ticket to the Dance and earned their first MEAC title since 1995 by beating Morgan State in the conference tournament. Just a .500 team during league play (8-8), the Aggies saved their best basketball for championship week to steal their automatic bid. Can this veteran group win the first NCAA tournament game in school history?
ESPN Insider has your answers, as Joe Lunardi has enlisted a team of Bracketologists to compile advanced metrics, key scouting intel and best- and worst-case tournament scenarios for all 68 teams, in order to help you make smart picks in your bracket. Plus, as Lunardi fills out his bracket, he'll give you his prediction on how each team will fare.
It was a strange season in the MEAC. Norfolk State went undefeated in conference play, but didn't face every team in the league. North Carolina Central finished a game back, but never played Norfolk State. Then neither of the favorites won the conference tournament. That prize went to the Aggies, which won this league a staggering seven straight times in the 1980s. A play-in with Liberty is A&T's best chance for the first NCAA win in school history.
Best wins: Eastern Kentucky
Worst losses: South Carolina Upstate, Delaware State, Bethune-Cookman, Cal State Bakersfield
