Bracket Projection: Liberty
The Flames' surprise postseason run is likely to end early in the NCAAs
The Liberty Flames won one game -- ONE! -- against Division I opposition before the start of Big South conference play in January. Two and a half months later, they're headed to the Big Dance with a real chance to win an NCAA tournament game. Only one other school has claimed a tournament bid after a 20-loss regular season, but a string of upsets in the Big South tourney means the Flames will arrive at the First Four with some momentum. Can this improbable run continue?
ESPN Insider has your answers, as Joe Lunardi has enlisted a team of Bracketologists to compile advanced metrics, key scouting intel and best- and worst-case tournament scenarios for all 68 teams, in order to help you make smart picks in your bracket. Plus, as Lunardi fills out his bracket, he'll give you his prediction on how each team will fare.
If the 20-loss Flames can win four straight Big South tournament games, they should be able to make a game of it against 16-loss North Carolina A&T. The committee certainly got this pairing right. The winner will be worst team remaining in the tournament, and it will play the best team in the field on Thursday. Hello, Louisville, goodbye play-in survivor.
Best wins: Um ... does at Western Carolina (RPI 245) count? Prior to the conference tournament, there's nothing better.
Worst losses: at Howard, at Presbyterian, at Longwood
