ACC the best conference ever?
New additions make it 2013-14's clear No. 1 but place in history up for debate
The Atlantic Coast Conference has long been known as a premier college basketball league, with 12 national championships to its credit and a glittering list of alumni ranging from Michael Jordan to Chris Paul. I guess you could say the conference was already fairly prominent -- and then it went out and added Syracuse, Pittsburgh and Notre Dame for this season, with reigning national champion Louisville slated to come aboard in 2014-15.
This new 15-team lineup is what led Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski to make his now somewhat famous remark: "We're going to be a 10-bid conference. We're going to be the best conference in the history of the game."
Almost from the moment Coach K made that statement, the question has been asked: Greatest ever? Will the ACC really be able to stake that claim?
