Upstart Cougars are still a season away from competing in OVC
2012-13: 9-18 (5-11)
In-conference offense: 0.95 points per possession (11th)
In-conference defense: 1.04 points per possession (4th)
SIU-Edwardsville is still in its infancy as a Division I program, one that is going through the usual pains that come along with moving to the NCAA's highest level. The Cougars are fortunate to have landed in the Ohio Valley Conference, a solid league within their geographical footprint. They won just five games in league play in 2012-13, one less than they won the season before. At this point in the program's development, a berth in the eight-team OVC tournament would constitute a successful step forward. Unfortunately, it may be another season before that happens.
