Preview: Southern Illinois Salukis
Salukis must solve off-court issues before improvement on-court arrives
2012-13: 14-17 (6-12 in Missouri Valley)
In-conference offense: .98 points per possession (T-9th)
In-conference defense: 1.09 points per possession (T-8th)
Southern Illinois finished at the bottom of the Missouri Valley last season, and don't expect that to change much in '13-14. The Salukis lost three starters from a squad that went just 14-17 overall and the program has been dealing with ongoing NCAA academic issues since Barry Hinson took over two years ago. He's attempting to clean up the mess left by former coach Chris Lowry -- who at one point ran a team with the fifth-worst APR in the nation -- and is doing a good job off the court.
On the court, though, is another story.
