Preview: Air Force Falcons
Fast-paced Falcons may be more grounded in season ahead
2012-13: 18-14 (8-8 Mountain West)
In-conference offense: 1.04 points per possession (3rd)
In-conference defense: 1.08 points allowed per possession (8th)
Coaches lose their best players all the time, but Dave Pilipovich faces a unique challenge. He didn't just design game plans to maximize first-team all-MWC guard Michael Lyons; Pilipovich completely and totally broke from established AFA style to use Lyons effectively, deploying the fastest Air Force offense -- by a long shot -- since Ken Pomeroy started publicly tracking such things in 2003, as the Falcons were second only to UNLV in average time of offensive possession in the MWC. Can this team remain efficient while playing with the same offensive urgency, despite the loss of Lyons and three other starters?
