Preview: Akron Zips
Zips may have drop off on defensive end, but should score the ball plenty
2012-13: 26-7 (14-2 MAC); lost to VCU 88-42, NCAA round of 64
In-conference offense: 1.06 points per possession (3rd)
In-conference defense: 0.93 points allowed per possession (1st)
How much of an impact can a single player have on a team's defense? Last season, the Zips had the best defense in the conference, which was aided by the now-departed center Zeke Marshall. The Zips only allowed opponents to shoot 43 percent on 2s. It would be unrealistic to expect 6-foot-11 sophomore Pat Forsythe and 6-9 freshman Isaiah Johnson to be as much of a force as Marshall was inside, making a drop-off in the Zip D likely.
