2013-14 Preview: Liberty Flames
Flames return a lot of key players, but defense remains a concern
2012-13: 15-21 (6-10)
In-conference offense: 1.06 points per possession (5th)
In-conference defense: 1.06 points allowed per possession (9th)
The 2012-13 regular season could be described only as a disappointment for Liberty basketball. After defeating just two Division I nonconference opponents, the Flames finished ahead of only Longwood in the North division. Some of that was just poor luck, as Liberty's efficiency numbers indicated a team that should have been closer to .500 in conference. Regardless, head coach Dale Layer was rumored to be on the hot seat, as his fourth season at the helm was looking like his worst.
