2013-14 Preview: Coastal Carolina
Chanticleers could challenge for a tourney bid on strength of tough defense
2012-13: 14-15 (9-7)
In-conference offense: 1.02 points per possession (7th)
In-conference defense: 0.95 points allowed per possession (1st)
If there's one thing Cliff Ellis has proven in six seasons at Coastal Carolina, it's that he knows how to coach defense. The Chanticleers have finished first or second in Big South in defensive efficiency for four seasons running, mostly due to tough interior D. Conference opponents have had a tough time converting 2s against CCU, and Ellis' men also do a good job cleaning the defensive glass. Despite some meaningful personnel losses, we can expect more of the same from the Chants in 2013-14, and consistently good defense can go a long way toward keeping a team in the Big South race.
