Preview: Oral Roberts
Despite youth, Eagles have the talent to contend for Southland title in 2013-14
2012-13: 20-15 (13-5)
In-conference offense: 1.09 points per possession (2nd)
In-conference defense: 0.98 points allowed per possession (4th)
When Oral Roberts left the Summit League to join the Southland last season, many saw the Golden Eagles as the instant favorites to win the conference. After all, the Summit is considerably tougher, and ORU was consistently a conference contender. But Scott Sutton's team lost three starters from the previous season, and Summit Freshman of the Year Steven Roundtree did not have the stellar sophomore campaign many expected of him, in part due to injury. As a result, Sutton's team had to be content with a third-place finish in the Southland race, behind both Stephen F. Austin and Northwestern State.
