Preview: Houston Baptist
Entering first year in Southland, Huskies will need offensive help to compete
2012-13: 14-17 (3-5, Great West)
In-conference offense: 0.91 points per possession (5th, Great West)
In-conference defense: 1.01 points allowed per possession (5th, Great West)
Last season, Houston Baptist was the worst team in one of the worst conferences in college basketball, the Great West. This season, HBU moves to the Southland, which is a big deal because for the first time in the program's history, it will be eligible for an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. Although the school has been a Division I member for a few years, the Great West did not receive an automatic bid, so winning the conference tournament really just got you the banner. For on-court purposes, HBU was a Division I school in name only.
