Massachusetts-Lowell begins its transition into Division I and won't be eligible for postseason until the 2017-18 season. The River Hawks hired Pat Duquette, Bill Coen's top assistant at Northeastern, to replace Greg Herenda who left for Fairleigh Dickinson. Duquette signed a five-year contract and will take over the team's move from Division II's Northeast-10 to the America East.
