Five teams on the rise for 2013-14
After a year away from national contention, look for Kentucky to rise again
That whole Michigan-Louisville national title game thing? Ancient history! I like to think of today as the first day of the 2013-14 season.
Looking forward, we find that practice starts in just 190 days. It's high time we start talking about what we're going to see the next time college hoops is happening. Here are five teams that didn't do much this season but that you'll be hearing from in 2013-14:
I mean, obviously, right? John Calipari had an incredible personal streak of seven consecutive Sweet 16s snapped when Kentucky didn't even make the 2013 tournament. Particularly after Nerlens Noel was lost to injury, the Wildcats looked very un-Calipari-like on defense, allowing a hair more than a point per possession in SEC play. But that's about to change. In fact, even with Noel universally assumed to be entering the 2013 NBA draft -- and Archie Goodwin likely leaving as well -- UK should have enough talent to contend for a national title.
