Betting 'Big Monday' games
Why UConn and Baylor are good bets in ESPN's 'Big Monday' games
With football season over, college basketball soon will take the spotlight for gamblers. That means it's time for your weekly chaser columns to turn to college basketball, which has games every night across the country, so there are plenty of opportunities to try to beat the lines.
Every Monday, we'll take a look at the two games airing on ESPN from a gambling perspective, with a pick on the game from Teddy Covers here on Insider.
Matchup: Louisville Cardinals at UConn Huskies
Spread: Louisville minus -7
PickCenter breakdown
With No. 1 Duke and No. 2 Michigan losing this weekend, third-ranked Louisville is in position to become the AP's No. 1-ranked team. That should give UConn some extra motivation on national television to knock off the team with that status. Expect some "no one gives us a chance" rhetoric to work its way throughout the locker room in pregame, and if the Huskies pull off the upset, watch out.
Louisville (9-7 against the spread) has won 10 straight games, and looks like the class of the Big East. Its lone loss this year was to Duke. Dating to last season, Louisville has covered in nine of its past 11 road conference games.
Connecticut (5-6 ATS) has transitioned well from Jim Calhoun to Kevin Ollie thus far, but tonight's opponent could be the toughest the Huskies likely will face all season. It's not often a 12-3 team is a solid underdog at home.
