Team-by-team 2011-12 grades
Evaluating every team in the Big 12, Big Ten and Big East
Now that the 2011-12 season is in the books, Doug Gottlieb is dishing out grades for every major conference team and some of the key mid-majors. Part 1, featuring the Big 12, Big East and Big Ten, will be published Monday, and Part 2, featuring the ACC, Pac-12, SEC and mid-majors, will be published on Tuesday.
Big 12
Kansas Jayhawks: A+
In a down year, Kansas wins the league and makes it to the NCAA championship game.
Iowa State Cyclones: A
Fred Hoiberg took several chances in taking transfers galore to Ames. By the end of the season, Iowa State was a unique and difficult matchup. Royce White found an offense that was totally built around him and Scott Christopherson had some huge games in conference play. All in all, Hilton Magic was back, and the Cyclones' tournament win over UConn, to go along with a hard-fought game versus Kentucky, solidified them as a team to watch in the future.
Missouri Tigers: A-
Missouri did win its conference tournament and was undefeated in the nonconference slate. On the other hand, not winning at least a share of the regular-season conference title and then losing to Norfolk State in the NCAA tournament leaves the Tigers feeling a little hollow, despite a great season.
