CBB Summer Buzz: Kansas
The loss of the Morris twins and other key contributors leaves Kansas with holes to fill
Insider knows you're hot for hoops during the summer, so we're bringing you a closer look at a few of the big-profile schools before most freshmen have even moved into their dorms. We continue with Kansas.
Kansas Jayhawks
2010-11: 35-3 (NCAA Elite Eight)
Last year, just a step away from the Final Four, Kansas ran into the Virginia Commonwealth buzzsaw. As the Rams became national darlings, people quickly forgot about the veteran Jayhawks. Stories about Shaka Smart soon supplanted ones about KU's numerous upperclassmen -- and their impending departures.
Now that the 2011-12 season is fast approaching, it's time to look at the new reality in Lawrence. The Jayhawks lost their six biggest minutes-earners, including the do-everything Morris twins.
They added five recruits (plus Loyola Marymount transfer Kevin Young), but four of them were April-to-June additions and none were ESPNU top-45 prospects.
And Bill Self, who has won at least 23 games in each of his eight seasons at Kansas (and 33 or more in four of those seasons), recently told CBSSports.com, "I'm as nervous as I've ever been going into a season." If he's nervous, how should KU fans feel?
Perhaps cautiously optimistic, at best? The Jayhawks have an unusually high number of unknowns heading into the season.
